A message from President Sal Alberico Sr.: The Spring Dance is the first of our three
fund raisers for the year. Fifty percent of the net proceeds will go to
Operation Sunshine and the balance to Local 51…With rising costs of everything,
we need these fund raisers to keep our Local in the black…So.….we need your
support…try to attend and bring a friend…..I recently attended the
NYS/NE conference and was surprised to learn that the Schenectady Symphony has
no bargaining agreement. The musicians are receiving very little compensation
and some are receiving none…The Pres. Of the local is trying to unionize them…Many
locals are behind in their per capita and the Federation will be sending
auditors to check them out…..It looks like there will be a per capita increase
of $.50 per member…It seems that the International Musician is operating at a
loss…One option is to have an every other month printing.
From
Vice President Joe Yozzo: We have started to receive bookings for concerts in the park from our neighboring
towns & villages. If you would like a schedule, call the office and we will
send you one. Try to get out & support our bands. You’ll find that it can
be quite an enjoyable evening. Food & beverages are available at most
concerts.
From Secretary-Treasurer Dan Falatico: I received a phone call from
Gerald McCormack recently informing us that his brother Robert (Curly)
McCormack died on Feb.12, 2001 from a heart condition. Robert was a former
member of Local 734 in Watertown…We have applied to MPTF for scholarships for
the following High School students who have been accepted at an accredited
Music School…Richard Galime-Proctor, Sara Riemersma and Matthew
Gifford-Whitesboro. If approved, each will receive $500.00…We will soon
have our own Web Page…This was voted on and passed at the April meeting.
Anyone wishing to participate, contact me, and for a very nominal fee, you or
your band can be included.
Membership meetings are held
at the Fort Schuyler Post No. 1290…404 Kossuth Ave…Utica…Next meetings will be
May 1st… June 5th and Sept. 4th at 7:30pm… Please try to attend…(Food
will be served after the meeting…Cash Bar)
